Mike Schmidt, born on September 27, 1949, is a former professional baseball player who is best known for his career with the Philadelphia Phillies. Schmidt was a third baseman and is widely regarded as one of the greatest to ever play the position.

Schmidt was drafted by the Phillies in 1971 and made his major league debut with the team in 1972. He quickly established himself as a powerful hitter and an exceptional fielder, winning 10 Gold Glove Awards throughout his career. Schmidt was also known for his ability to hit for power, and he led the National League in home runs eight times.

In addition to his defensive and offensive prowess, Schmidt was also a team leader and was named the National League Most Valuable Player three times. He helped lead the Phillies to their first World Series championship in 1980 and was a key contributor to the team’s success throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Schmidt retired in 1989 after a 17-year career with the Phillies. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995, and his number 20 was retired by the Phillies. After his playing career, Schmidt has remained involved in baseball as a television commentator and has also been active in charitable work and philanthropy.

Overall, Mike Schmidt’s career is marked by his exceptional talent as a player, his leadership on and off the field, and his lasting impact on the game of baseball.

Currently, PSA has authenticated nearly 10,000 copies of Mike Schmidt’s 1973 Topps rookie card, however just over 200 copies have been autographed and authenticated by PSA.  I originally purchased a SGC 7 copy that I cracked open and got autographed in-person at The Philly Show.
